Anton's Restaurant

My friend from St Joseph brought me here during a recent visit and I loved it! It was a little chilly to sit outside with views of the river, but I loved the warmth and woodsy decor of the dining room. There is a full bar, a good wine list, and a nice selection of craft beers on tap. Fresh hot popovers with honey butter (oh yum!) were brought by our friendly and helpful server. My friend got the glazed salmon and I opted for the pork ribs — both were delicious! If there had been room for dessert, I’d have gone for the lava cake; that’ll be next time!

I had a very mixed experience here. I grew up going to Anton's. However, as I have grown up, and traveled, and been to many more places, Anton's doesn't stack up. But, for St Cloud, they still are good. We had reservations, we chose to sit outside. Beware, if you sit outside, there are pesty geese and there is a slight smell too. However, that did not bother me at all. I enjoyed interacting with the feathery beggars. But not all will enjoy it. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came looking like a mini football. It was very rare. They replaced my meal, and I got the Cajun pasta instead and it was yummy! However I confirmed with them that the dish did not have onions... and the description said that it had red peppers, and my dish came out with no red peppers, and I don't know if that was a misunderstanding or just them not following the menu. My husband had the roasted duck, and I tasted it and it was very good. We ordered two desserts... and one was just average and one was really good (the chocolate pie). I always enjoy the popovers at Anton's but recently I've had popovers at other establishments that I like better. My husband ordered a scotch and I took a sip of it and it was a very good scotch. I had to Paloma and it was enjoyable. I probably won't go back as it doesn't meet my expectations for fine dining, but for the area I do think that it is still fine dining.

Recommended to us by the concierge at Country Inn & Suites in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Our request of a local restaurant that had good food and a quiet atmosphere—Anton’s was fantastic! We even contemplated coming through town again just to eat there a second time! We had the glazed salmon and chicken Gouda penne pasta. Wonderful waitress and service. Love the atmosphere. My husband liked his dish a lot steak and potatoes. He likes rare so it was perfect for him. I got my favorite lobster mac and cheese. It's been a few year since I had been to Antons since we live out of town. The Mac has changed. It used to be spiral noodles now it's not. The cheese sauce was good. But it use to have big pieces of lobster in it and was amazing. Now I had like four smaller than shrimp pieces and struggled to find them. Won't be getting that dish again unfortunately. Popovers were good as usual.
